For many students, finals are one of the most stressful times of their semester. However, preparation and good habits are key to achieving success during the finals season. The following tips will lead you to a less stressful and a more successful finals season:

1. Plan ahead.

It’s never too early to start planning for finals. In fact, planning ahead can reduce the amount of stress you experience during the finals season.

2. Seek help early.

Don’t wait until the last minute to get clarification on class materials that you don’t understand.

3. Review and rewrite your notes daily.

Take some time each day to review the topics that were covered in each of your classes that day. Reviewing your notes daily can help you figure out early what you do and don’t know, and what material you may need to seek help for.

4. Learn from your exam and homework mistakes.

Go through your exams and assignments from the semester to see where you made mistakes. Then, think of ways you can avoid making the same mistakes on your finals.

5. Reflect on previous finals season.

Think about study methods that worked well and the ones that didn’t. Incorporate some or all of the methods that worked well previously into your new plan for the upcoming finals season.

6. Know and use your resources.

There are many resources around campus that are available to students. Many of these resources can be found on the UW Oshkosh website. Don’t be afraid to use them and/or incorporate them into your finals plan.

7. Incorporate self care into your plan.

With the stress of finals it can be easy to forget to take some time out for yourself to relax and recharge. Designate some time away from studying to engage in an activity that you enjoy such as watching an episode of your favorite tv show, going out for ice cream, playing a video game, etc.
